Pedal Powered Kayaks
Pedal powered kayaks come outfitted with a secondary means of power – a unique pedal system, in addition to the more traditional paddles or oars.
Kayaks with foot pedals offer a fast, smooth ride, and moves faster than a standard sit-on-top kayak or canoe.
The pedal kayak concept is similar in most designs with a kayaker utilizing pedal power to propel a kayak with rapid turns of the fins. In shallow waters, it’s possible to lift-up the pedals or fins so that all areas become accessible.
Once out of water the pedals can either fold flat or can be removed so making transporting that much easier. Although, some of these paddling machines are a little heavy, so can be difficult to load onto a vehicle by a single person.
Manufactures to design and build pedal powered kayaks include Native Watercraft and Hobie Cat with its MirageDrive system to deliver a silent, smooth and efficient operation. Kayaks with pedals offer a great all-in-one fishing boat – hands are kept free to hold a rod while the feet can keep up with paddling without a problem.
